Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan is calling for F1 to get rid of DRS, criticizing it as “fundamentally false” and a “stupid rule.”
DRS was introduced in 2011 to improve overtaking after a disappointing Abu Dhabi finale in 2010.
In the final race of the 2010 season, Fernando Alonso struggled to overtake Vitaly Petrov, losing the title to Sebastian Vettel.
Despite criticism, DRS has remained a key component for overtaking in F1.
The Formula for Success podcast discussed the topic of DRS, with former F1 driver David Coulthard stating after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix: “Now, we’ve just witnessed recently the Grand Prix in Brazil all in damp, wet conditions, and of course, no DRS, and it was a brilliant race.
Jordan strongly criticized DRS, likening it to handicapping a boxer.
He expressed his belief that any artificial means of overtaking is unfair and detracts from the true competition.
Jordan argued that DRS gives an unfair advantage and detracts from the skill and strategy required for overtaking.
He emphasized the importance of fair and honest racing without the need for artificial aids like DRS.
