Eminem has “had discussions” about joining the investor group looking to bring a WNBA expansion franchise to Detroit, according to Paul & Graham of the DETROIT NEWS. The “high-profile” group already includes Pistons owner Tom Gores, Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp, Lions QB Jared Goff, and former NBAers Chris Webber and Grant Hill. A spokesperson for Eminem said he “has expressed interest,” but “nothing has been finalized.” Paul & Graham note Gores is “leading the bid to bring the WNBA back,” with the group formally submitting a bid in January. Detroit’s prospective WNBA team would “play home games at Little Caesars Arena” (DETROIT NEWS, 3/12). ROLLING STONE’s Jon Blistein writes Eminem’s reported involvement in the possible Detroit WNBA franchise is “hardly a surprise,” as the rapper, who grew up in the city, “remains a dedicated supporter of its many teams.” Sportico first reported Eminem’s interest in the Detroit WNBA bid (ROLLING STONE, 3/12).
