This weekend sees the 2024-25 Premier League get started as the top three divisions of the country’s netball clubs take to court at the start of a season that promises to deliver exciting and entertaining, high-level competition.
The Premier League is England’s highest level of club netball competition. Split into three divisions, Premier League 1, Premier League 2 and Premier League 3, the competition sees some of the country’s top netballers battle it out on court week in, week out in a bid to be crowned Premier League champions.
In the 2024-25 season, all Premier League 1 and selected Premier League 2 and 3 fixtures will be streamed via englandnetball.tv.
This year all available first-round matches across the three divisions will be free to watch on englandnetball.tv. All you need to do is follow the link and create an account to be able to access the games.
Each division of the competition has 18 rounds and is played in a home and away format. The teams that make up the three divisions have come through a grueling county, regional, and national pathway to take one of the coveted 30 places.
The champions and runners-up of Premier League 2 and Premier League 3 at the end of the 2023-24 season were promoted up a division, while the bottom two sides in Premier League 1 and Premier League 2 faced relegation. The bottom three sides in Premier League 3 faced all nine of the regional league winners in the Premier League Play-Offs to decide who would compete in Premier League 3 this season.
The top-flight defending champions this year are Academy, who won their fourth title in 2023-24, losing just two games over the course of the season. They are joined in Premier League 1 by the top nine netball clubs across the country, including two newly promoted clubs, all of whom will be battling it out to be crowned champions in 2025.
Winners of the Premier League 2 division in 2023-24 after an unbeaten season, Hucclecote Netball Club were promoted to Premier League 1 and will be working hard to make their mark as they return to the top division of English club netball this season. And after back-to-back promotions, Eagles join Hucclecote as the second team promoted into Premier League 1 following an impressive 2023-24 campaign.
In Premier League 2, one club to watch out for is Norfolk United, who were awarded the Premier League ‘Club of the Season’ in 2023-24. This award recognizes and celebrates the club for their off-court standards, including providing a high-quality home match experience for visiting teams and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
Among the teams joining Norfolk United in Premier League 2 are The Downs and Tameside, who were both relegated from Premier League 1 at the end of last season, as well as Premier League 3 champions from 2023-24 Team Bath Toucans, and runners-up Trafford.
Returning to Premier League 3 this season are Northants Storm, who narrowly missed out on promotion at the end of the 2023-24 season and Ryland who narrowly avoided the Premier League Play-Offs at the other end of the table. Ryland and Premier Romans both successfully retained their spot in the division after competing in the Premier League Play-Offs, while Hatfield Hawks enter Premier League 3 after winning the East regional league and earning a place in Premier League 3 after a successful Premier League Play-Off campaign.
