Netflix secured the streaming rights for the highly anticipated sporting event between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
The event happened at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas in front of over 70,000 fans on November 15, 2024. However, many viewers watching from home experienced technical difficulties.
This resulted in blackouts and frozen feeds for some viewers.
Netflix, a frontrunner for UFC broadcast rights in 2025, faced criticism for the streaming issues during the fight. Downdetector received over 500,000 complaints regarding Netflix’s streaming problems.
Netflix’s Twitter account failed to address the streaming issues during the event, focusing instead on promoting the platform.
The streaming problems overshadowed the exciting fights that took place, including Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s rematch.
While there were thrilling matches, the broadcast’s pacing and commentary were criticized. Jake Paul’s victory over Mike Tyson also received mixed reactions.
The streaming issues raised concerns for Netflix’s upcoming deal with WWE in January.
Netflix chose not to comment on the situation.
