EVERYTHING You Need To Know About Getting Around Paris For The Olympic & Paralympic Games
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

So you’re going to the 2024 Paris Olympics or Paralympics (or both!) this year? Well, let’s dive into everything you need to know about transportation in and around Paris for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. (Last updated 14 July 2024)

Major Olympic Venues in the Heart of Paris

Many major events will be taking place right in the heart of the city, utilizing world-famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Grand Palais, Hôtel de Ville, and Trocadéro. These locations are relatively close to each other, making walking a convenient and budget-friendly option that also lets you soak up those unmistakable Parisian vibes.

The Paris 2024 Pass: Your Key to Seamless Travel

Important Update: During the Olympics and Paralympics (July 20 to September 8, 2024), the usual Navigo Week Pass, Day Pass, and Paris Visite Pass will not be available. Instead, all travelers must use the Paris 2024 Pass. Note: If you buy a Navigo Pass prior to the 20th July it will still work but anytime after that you will need to use the Paris 2024 Pass.

Paris 2024 Pass Pricing

  • 1 Day: €16
  • 2 Days: €30
  • 3 Days: €42
  • 4 Days: €52
  • 5 Days: €60
  • 6 Days: €66
  • 7 Days: €70
  • 14 Days: €140 (only available online / on mobile)

Note: The Paris 2024 Pass covers unlimited travel on RER/Train, Metro, Tramway, Shuttle CDG Val, Shuttle CDG Orly, Shuttle Fun, and Paris public buses.

How to Buy the Paris 2024 Pass

Online Purchase

You can buy the Paris 2024 Pass online for home delivery. Visit pass.paris2024.iledefrance-mobilites.fr for details. Allow up to 30 days for shipping, Given that it is already July, we don’t recommend this option right now.

Mobile Purchase

The Paris 2024 Pass will be available for use on mobile phones. Download the Ile-de-France Mobilités app for iPhone or Android. Alternatively, use the Transport Public Paris 2024 app for Android or iPhone.

In-Person Purchase

The Paris 2024 Pass can be purchased at:

  • Paris Metro, RER, Transilien train station ticket windows, or automated machines.
  • Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) Terminal 2 and 1/3 train stations.
  • Orly Airport Metro line 14 ticket window in Terminal 1-2-3 or the Terminal 4 bus loop Orlybus ticket window.

Travel Zones and Coverage

The Paris 2024 Pass covers travel in zones 1 to 5, which includes all Olympic venues and popular tourist destinations such as:

Zone 1-5

Important Tips for Using the Paris 2024 Pass

  • The pass is valid only between July 20 and September 8, 2024.
  • Any remaining days on the pass after September 8 will be lost.
  • The pass counts days consecutively from the first day of use. For example if you buy a two day pass and use it on Monday and want to use it on Wednesday it won’t work. Has to be used consecutively so be smart.
  • The pass is available as a paper ticket for 1-day use, but longer durations need to be loaded onto a Navigo Easy card or a mobile app (easiest).
  • If you’re traveling with kids, consider opting for paper passes or the card option to avoid the sterss of sharing phones.
  • Unfortunately, there are no reduced fares for children for the Paris 2024 transport pass. Children under 4 ride for free, but anyone 4 and up requires a ticket or pass to travel.

Understanding Paris Public Transport

Metro & RER/Train

The Metro is the backbone of Parisian public transport, with extensive lines covering the entire city. Metro stations are marked with “METRO” signs.

RER (Réseau Express Régional) trains are faster than the Metro and connect Paris with surrounding suburbs. Look for “RER” or “TRAIN” signs.

The Paris Metro and RER are fast and efficient ways of getting around Paris and its suburbs.

Tramway

Tram lines, indicated by “TRAMWAY” signs, serve various parts of the city and are especially useful for shorter distances.

Paris Public Buses

Buses are identified by numbers and serve routes across the city and beyond. The bus network is extensive, covering the whole of the city and the surrounding area.

Shuttle Services

  • CDG Val and CDG Orly Shuttles: These shuttles connect the airports to central Paris.
  • Shuttle Fun: An additional shuttle service for convenience during the Games.

Arriving in Paris-Beauvais Airport?

From Paris-Beauvais Aiport into Paris…

The good news is there is a bus from Paris-Beauvais Aiport to Paris. The bad news is that during the Olympics and Paralympics, it won’t go inside Paris as usual so you will need to either go to go Line 2 at Saint-Denis University (Metro) or Line 3 at La Défense (RER Metro), where you can use the metro to travel inside Paris.
