The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Wednesday that former Dodgers outfielder, David Dahl, has cleared waivers and chosen to enter free agency.
Dahl was designated for assignment on Monday when the Phillies welcomed back Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper from the injured list.
Dahl performed well during his time with the Dodgers, hitting .282/.354/.493 in 54 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He originally signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers in June and became a free agent at the end of the season.
Despite showing promise, the 30-year-old faced challenges after his contract was selected on June 3 from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He hit two home runs in his first three games with the big league club before struggling. Since then, his performance declined significantly with a .154/.196/.231 line in 56 plate appearances.
Having dealt with injuries in previous seasons, Dahl appeared to be in good physical shape when he signed with the Phillies in the offseason. Prior to his call-up, he excelled in 43 minor league games with a .340/.416/.660 slash line and 12 home runs.
Although Dahl has completed five years of service this season, he will not reach six until the next season. It is possible that he may find a new team once opportunities arise during the July 30 trade deadline.
The Dodgers are set to finish their three-game series in Philadelphia today.
