Porsche motorsport boss Thomas Laudenbach has stated that the famed German brand has no plans to join Formula 1.
There was speculation in the past about Volkswagen Audi Group’s (VAG) potential involvement in F1, with Audi considering a full team entry and Porsche’s role remaining unclear. However, Volkswagen’s CEO, Herbert Diess, shut down any hopes of Porsche entering F1 in the near future, citing the long process to become competitive in the sport.
Porsche Motorsports VP Fritz Enzinger previously expressed interest in F1 if the sport adopted e-fuels, aligning with Porsche’s eco-friendly goals. Talks with McLaren about potential partnerships were also held with Audi and Porsche, but concerns over naming rights terms arose.
Thomas Laudenbach has now confirmed that F1 is not on Porsche’s current agenda, emphasizing their focus on existing racing activities such as customer racing, GT series, and Formula E. Porsche has a rich history in F1, with notable successes in the past, but the company’s current priorities lie elsewhere.
While there have been discussions about a possible return to F1 in the past, Porsche’s recent decisions indicate a dedication to their current motorsport initiatives rather than pursuing a comeback to the pinnacle of racing.
