Friday’s matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks ended in a contentious manner, to say the least. The Sparks were given a couple of opportunities to stay alive in the tightly contested matchup between two sides with playoff aspirations this season.
The most controversial moment in the game came when the game official decided to give the Sparks a reset timeout with 0.1 seconds remaining. The Fever were adamant that time had already run out at that point, but the referee called it otherwise.
Either way, L.A. wasn’t able to get a shot up with so little time remaining, which resulted in the Fever escaping with a hard-fought 76-75 win.
Sydney Colson Slams Game Official
Fever veteran Sydney Colson was not even in attendance for the road game at Crypto.com Arena. The 5-foot-8 guard watched the matchup from home as she continues to recover from season-ending ACL surgery.
However, Colson’s absence did not stop her from accusing the referee of supposedly trying to give the game away.

“He ran in TWICE tryna give the game away and that’s what had me weak 😂😂would it have been THRICE had time allowed for it?? (Thrice means three times. I see a lot of y’all who respond to me with IDIOTIC [expletive] so I knew you didn’t know the definition of thrice since ur dumb🫶🏾)” Colson posted on X.
Fans React to Colson’s Fiery Statement
Those are some pretty strong words from Colson, which is why more than a few fans believe that the two-time WNBA champion guard should expect a call from the league because of her blatant criticism.
“Fine incoming … those refs definitely had 💰 on the Sparks” a comment on X read.
“I got your fine Syd if the weakass W try to come after you,” another said.
“Sydney you are about to get fined. Always better to speak the truth than to live in fear,” wrote a user.

“Someone start a go fund me for these player fines lol. They’re gonna be loud,” a reaction read.
“This is going to cost you $500,” another said.
“Hopefully CC covers these fines lol but you ain’t lying,” a fan posted.
Even though she could potentially be facing a fine for her statement here, Colson also received a lot of support from fans who believe that at least one of the referees in the game, indeed, had a bias against the Fever.
It is worth noting that Indiana star Sophie Cunningham has been fined multiple times this season for criticizing WNBA referees. Head coach Stephanie White has also suffered the same fate.

Either way, it’s Indiana who came out on top against the Sparks. The Fever improved to 21-18 after Friday’s victory and have inched closer towards clinching a berth in the WNBA Playoffs.
