During this WNBA offseason, one of the most exciting moments occurred when Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark participated in an LPGA Golfing pro-am competition hosted by Annika Sorenstam on November 13.
But that wasn’t the only golf event Clark took part in this month. She also played in the RSM Classic pro-am on November 20, teeing off alongside PGA Tour mainstay Zach Johnson.
It was a refreshing change for the women’s basketball community to see Clark showcasing her skills in a different sport. The golf media capitalized on the presence of such a transcendent star, with various pundits and commentators praising her participation and its positive impact.
The PGA Tour continued to highlight Clark by posting photos of the golf clubs she uses on November 30, captioned, “A look at what’s inside the bag of 2024 @WNBA Rookie of the Year @CaitlinClark22 🏌️♀️”.
Fans have criticized the WNBA’s social media accounts for not promoting Clark enough, given her star power. This criticism increased when the WNBA’s account posted an incorrect statistic about her assists in her rookie season.
Following the PGA Tour’s successful post, fans are once again calling out the WNBA for not doing enough to promote Clark.
“@WNBA it is so easy to promote Clark. learn from other leagues,” tweeted user @Erikaanada.
Another fan added, “The WNBA our home but it feels like the PGA adopted us 🙂⬆️.”
A third observer noted, “PGA/LPGA, the NBA, and soon the NWSL capitalize more on Clark’s motion than her own league… wild. Amazing! But… wild.”
It remains to be seen if the WNBA will learn from other leagues in promoting Clark as eagerly. Only time will tell.
