Over the years, the WNBA has faced backlash and ridicule, dealing with criticism and objectification. The recent surge in popularity has helped change the narrative, but some outdated views persist.
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal faced backlash for encouraging Angel Reese to dunk in short shorts for marketing purposes. Internet personality Charleston White echoed this sentiment on Jeff Teague’s “Club 520” podcast, sparking controversy with inappropriate comments.
“I’m with Shaq,” White said. “Dunk in some p***ies with no bra on. That’s how you sell tickets. We need an OnlyF**s WNBA, then I’ll tune in.”
A fan called out Shannon Sharpe, who sponsors the show, for allowing such remarks to air. Another fan defended Sharpe, pointing out the lack of outrage over similar incidents involving other sports personalities.
It’s expected that the show will issue a statement or apology following the uproar over this viral clip.
Charleston White’s History of Controversial Remarks
This isn’t the first time White has targeted Angel Reese. He previously made derogatory comments about her and showed a pattern of offensive behavior. Fans are not staying silent in response to these insults.
