Since Angel Reese did the “You can’t see me” gesture at Caitlin Clark in 2023, their names have been intertwined in the minds of hoops fans. Two years into their hardcourt rivalry, Reese and Clark have been recognized by a major media outlet as pillars of basketball’s future. Fans, though, have varying opinions on Reese’s recognition.
On New Year’s Day, Bleacher Report posted a list that predicted the 25 best athletes over the next quarter century. While Clark was No. 2 on the list, Reese was No. 23.
Reese’s inclusion in this list prompted one netizen to make this comment:
“angel reese so smart for attaching herself to caitlin”
Some fans followed suit with less-than-flattering comments of their own.
“Best decision she ever made in her layup missing career,” said one online user.
“Literally don’t think anyone cared for Angel until she did the you can’t see me thing to Caitlin,” chimed in another.
Other fans came to the defense of the Chicago Sky forward by citing her accomplishments:
“If by “attaching herself” you mean beating her and winning an NCAA championship then yes,” said one netizen.
“What? She didn’t attach herself to Caitlin. She literally won player of the tourney and natty,” said another.
Some fans pointed out the media’s role in the Reese-Clark rivalry.
“I mean the media did it first but she did capitalize on her opportunity!” commented one online user.
As Reese and Clark continue to square off against each other, their names will continue to headline lists that generate heated fan debate.
