Ferrari continues staff turnover as two engineers leave Maranello: here’s who they are

The turnover at Ferrari continues, with two more engineers packing their bags and leaving Maranello to join other teams. Here’s who they are and what roles they held within the Scuderia.

In recent weeks, there has been notable movement regarding personnel entering and exiting Maranello, with two additional engineers now joining the list of departures. Let’s take a closer look at who they are and the positions they occupied within the Ferrari ecosystem.

The two most significant names to leave Ferrari are undoubtedly Wolf Zimmermann and Lars Schmidt. Zimmermann is the engineer behind the power unit that Ferrari will introduce in 2026, while Schmidt served as his right-hand man. It should be noted that their departures were planned, as both engineers had requested to leave several months ago.

The latest engineers leaving Maranello

It is important to clarify that the two most recent departures are not considered primary figures within the Ferrari hierarchy. All these movements, both incoming and outgoing, have long been anticipated in Frédéric Vasseur’s strategic plans.

The first to leave is Paula Munoz, a Spanish engineer working in the Simulation and Modelling sector. She specialized in cooling systems and the development of wind tunnel models. On her LinkedIn account, she announced the end of her two-year tenure with Ferrari and her upcoming move to the Mercedes team. The minimal (or non-existent) gardening period reflects her secondary role within the team’s structure.

The second departure is Nicolò Castrignanò, another engineer leaving Ferrari after approximately two years. He initially worked on software design for the power unit before taking on the role of Test Automation Engineer and later Automation Team Leader. Unlike Munoz, Castrignanò is leaving Formula 1 entirely to move to Formula E, specifically joining Yamaha Lola. These are the latest exits from Maranello, all of which were planned and scheduled in advance.
