HOPEWELL, N.J. (Oct. 9, 2024) – Allyson Fertig has been named to the watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award for the second consecutive season. The award is presented by Her Hoop Stats and was announced on Wednesday morning. Fertig is among the 25 student-athletes selected for the list. To qualify for the award, student-athletes must compete in one of the 26 conferences classified as “mid-major.”
Fertig, a two-time All-Mountain West Team honoree, was ranked sixth in scoring in the Mountain West last season, averaging 14.3 points per game. She also ranked second in the league in rebounding with 8.4 per game and was second in blocks with an average of 1.64 per game. Fertig led the league with a 60.8-percent field goal shooting percentage, which was the 10th best in the nation. Additionally, she recorded 13 double-doubles last season, leading the MW in that category.
Fertig and the Cowgirls will be holding an open practice on Saturday morning at the Arena-Auditorium starting at 10:30. Wyoming’s season kicks off with an exhibition against Chadron State on November 1 at 5:30 p.m. The regular season opener is on November 4 when Colorado visits for a 5:30 p.m. game.
The Becky Hammon Award is named after the three-time All-America and former WNBA All-Star and All-WNBA First Team player, who retired in 2014. Hammon made history as the second female coach in NBA history when she joined the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff in 2014. She is currently the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces, the defending champions of the 2022 and 2023 WNBA seasons.
Founded in 2017, Her Hoop Stats aims to provide better insights into women’s basketball at all levels and has become a prominent voice in the women’s game.
