Fever Coach Opens Fire at WNBA Officials After Caitlin Clark Incident

The Indiana Fever were able to pull off their second straight win since superstar guard Caitlin Clark made her return from a quad injury. On Tuesday night, the Fever were able to defeat the Connecticut Sun in dominating fashion by a final score of 88-71.

In the win, Clark once again put together a strong game. She scored 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting, including making four of her six three-point shots. Clark also dished out six assists in the win.

While she was entertaining to watch as usual, another situation occurred involving a cheap shot taken on Clark in the third quarter.

After being poked in the face by one of the Sun defenders, Clark was then shoved to the floor by Marina Mabrey. Even the announcers expected an ejection, but that was not the case. Mabrey was allowed to stay in the game.

Needless to say, the play made Indiana angry. Clark has been taking cheap shots since entering the league and the officials have not protected her well.

Following the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White spoke out about the situation. She opened fire on WNBA officials and did not hold back her thoughts.

“I think it was pretty obvious that stuff was brewing. When the officials don’t get control of the ball game, when they allow that stuff to happen … this is what happens,” White said.

“They got to be better.”

Thankfully, Indiana was able to pick up a win. Clark and company improved to 6-5 on the season with the victory and are starting to look the part of a WNBA Finals contender once again with Clark leading the way.

Outside of Clark, the Fever received a big performance from Kelsey Mitchell in the win over Connecticut. She scored 17 points on 8-for-18 shooting. Natasha Howard also chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

White and Indiana are clearly frustrated with how Clark has been treated and targeted through her first two years so far. The Fever head coach has had enough.

It will be interesting to see if anything changes following this barrage sent at the WNBA referees. Regardless, Clark will continue playing hard and improving her claim on being the face of the league.
