Kelsey Mitchell was the driving force for the Indiana Fever during the 2025 WNBA season. The 5-foot-8 guard played all 44 games in the regular season, averaging a career-high 20.2 points on 45.6% shooting, 1.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 31.4 minutes per contest. Mitchell also knocked down 2.5 triples per game on a 39.4% clip.

Mitchell had to carry a significant load amid the Fever’s injury crisis. Star guard Caitlin Clark was limited to just 13 games before being ruled out for the latter part of the season with a groin injury. Sophie Cunningham and three other players also suffered season-ending injuries before the WNBA playoffs.

Mitchell led the Fever to the playoffs for the second straight season. They defeated the Atlanta Dream in the first round. However, they were eliminated in the semis after a tough five-game series against the eventual champions, the Las Vegas Aces.

Mitchell was unable to finish out the Aces series. She suffered an injury in Game 5 and did not return. The 30-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital and later diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a muscle condition associated with overfatigue.

In a social media post, the Fever star described her injury as “numbness/paralyzing feeling with no movement from my lower extremities for up to 5 to 7 seconds.”

Mitchell has since recovered from her troubling injury. The three-time All-Star has returned to the court amid the WNBA offseason. She is playing in the second season of Unrivaled, an independent 3-on-3 league.

Mitchell’s campaign at Unrivaled has been off to a rough start. She is part of Hive Basketball Club, an expansion team playing in its inaugural season. The Hive were 0-3 entering Friday’s game against Rose BC, the league’s defending champion.

Mitchell went off in the contest, leading Hive to its first-ever win. She dropped a team-high 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting with two 3-pointers. The All-WNBA guard also scored the game-winning basket to lead her team to a 78-75 victory. It was Rose BC’s first loss of the season and ruined a 36-point night from Rose’s Chelsea Gray.

The Fever took to social media to announce Mitchell’s latest milestone.

“Kelsey Mitchell scored the game-winning bucket for Team Hive’s first-ever win 🐝🔥” the team posted on Instagram.

Despite improving to 1-3, Mitchell and the Hive are still seventh out of eight teams in the Unrivaled league. They play again at 8:45 p.m. ET Sunday against Phantom Basketball Club, which features Mitchell’s Indiana teammate Aliyah Boston, on truTV.

Mitchell’s contract with the Fever has expired. She will become an unrestricted free agent once the window officially opens on Feb. 1.
