CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women’s basketball team is set to embark on a foreign tour of Italy and Greece from August 2-12. The team will participate in multiple exhibition games, educational tours, excursions, local cuisine, and authentic experiences during their time overseas.
Head coach Shauna Green expressed her excitement about the upcoming trip, saying, “I am very excited about this amazing opportunity that we have as a team to go on this trip. This allows us to have more practice time this summer and, obviously, gives us the early opportunity to compete together in a real game setting. The best thing about these trips is the amount of time our student-athletes get together to grow our relationships and become more connected. They will also get to experience different cultures, which helps in our overall development as people. We are very grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait for August!”
This 2024 tour will be the first foreign trip under coach Green at Illinois, marking the second of her head coaching career after a 2018 trip to Italy while at Dayton. With five newcomers on the roster, the team is looking to build on their WBIT championship run from the previous season, which provided valuable experience for the returning players.
The team’s itinerary will include visits to Rome, Florence, and Naples in Italy, as well as Athens and Glyfada in Greece. This trip follows the program’s previous foreign trip to Australia in 2019.
