CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women’s basketball team has earned recognition for its work in the classroom last season, earning honorable mention in the 2023-24 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, which was announced on Wednesday. The Fighting Illini posted a 3.509 combined GPA during the 2023-24 school year.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and two-year college women’s basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2023-24 season is the 29th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
Illinois is one of 123 Division-I women’s teams to earn a 3.0 combined GPA or better and ranks 40th on the list for top marks. The Fighting Illini’s 3.509 GPA is the top mark in the Big Ten after ranking second in the league following Shauna Green’s first season at the helm in 2022-23.
In total, seven of the league’s 14 squads earned honorable mention status from the WBCA: Illinois (40), Indiana (57), Ohio State (76), Iowa (83), Penn State (96), Rutgers (117), Maryland (118).
