LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — The Davidson County Fire Marshal’s Office said on Monday that investigators have exhausted all efforts to determine the cause of a fatal house fire in Lexington last week.
Preliminary findings indicated that the fire started in a motorhome parked next to a home and then spread to the home, according to a DCFMO news release.
Investigators have determined that the most probable cause of the fire was an unspecified failure of the refrigerator inside the motorhome
At around 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 25, a motorhome on Kimberly Lane caught fire next to a single-family house and then spread to a house that had five people inside it.
The Lexington Fire Department tells FOX8 that there were smoke alarms in the home, but they were not working at the time of the blaze.
Three of the five people in the home were trapped inside during the fire. One of them was rescued and taken to a hospital.
Two adult women and a three-year-old girl died as a result of injuries caused by the fire, according to the fire department. Two adults, a man and a woman, survived.
The family says that the victims were Alysha Clark, 32, Megan Clark, 29, and Madelyn Edge, 3. Megan and Alysha Clark were sisters and Madelyn was Megan’s daughter. Alysha’s wife and father survived the fire, though the father was treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire marshal says the fire caused “extensive damage to the house, resulting in a collapsed roof and weakened floors, which presented significant challenges for the responding firefighters.”
FOX8 spoke with Kalysha Wall, who is Alysha and Megan’s sister, along with her mother, Tami Mendoza.
When they spoke about their loved ones, they broke down in tears, saying they were special people and loved each other very much.
“I don’t know how we are going to go on from this, but we are going to figure it out one day at a time … Give your loved ones a tight hug,” Wall said.
