Flau’jae Johnson kicks off her junior season with the LSU Tigers in style, establishing herself as a key player. In the season opener against Eastern Kentucky, she scored an impressive 25 points, showcasing her potential to contribute significantly to LSU’s success. Speculation about her future in the WNBA has been growing, with many linking her to the Indiana Fever for the 2025 draft. Johnson recently revealed something that could make the Fever an even more appealing option for both parties.

After leading her team to victory in the season opener, LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson released a new episode of her podcast. Towards the end of the episode, she discussed the recent coaching changes in the WNBA, expressing admiration for Stephanie White, the newly appointed head coach of the Indiana Fever.

“Having Stephanie White as the head coach of the Fever, I really like that. I feel she is a players’ coach. I remember when she was recruiting me at Vanderbilt, I was impressed and wanted to play for her,” said Johnson.

Flau’jae Johnson says during the recruiting process, every school but LSU told her she had to choose between basketball and her rap career. The Tigers let her do both.

During Johnson’s transition from Sprayberry High School to college basketball, White was leading Vanderbilt. When Johnson was choosing her college, White had moved on but eventually returned to coaching in 2023 with the Connecticut Sun. Johnson admitted she would have considered Vanderbilt if White had still been there.

“I try to go where I like the people and she seemed like a good coach,” added LSU #4 on Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae. Although she ended up at LSU, Johnson still speaks highly of White and her coaching abilities, showing excitement for White’s leadership at the Indiana Fever.

Johnson praised White’s addition to the Fever, saying, “I really think that is a good addition. I really believe that. And she was a good, she seemed like a good coach. And I think I like this for the Indiana Fever. So next season I’m going to be seeing. But I really think that is a good addition. Like I really believe that.”

This hints at a potential future where Johnson might join the Indiana Fever in the 2025 WNBA draft. Her admiration for former teammate Angel Reese’s arch rival could also foster good team chemistry.

Flau’jae Johnson’s potential move to the Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever’s roster already features young talent like Caitlin Clark, Lexie Hull, and Aliyah Boston, positioning them as an up-and-coming team. Coach Stephanie White aims to elevate the team’s game around stars like Clark and Boston, making Johnson a perfect fit for the franchise given her admiration for White.

While Johnson’s connection with the Indiana Fever seems promising, her mother’s preference for the Los Angeles Sparks could be a hurdle. Johnson has also considered the Atlanta Dream but her appreciation for White and Clark suggests a favorable dynamic that might sway her towards the Indiana Fever.
