Bronny James’ struggles in the NBA prompted many to compare him with WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark. In a hypothetical matchup, some concluded that LeBron James’ son might lose against the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division 1 history. Others thought that she would run rings around the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA draft.
Jeff Teague, a 2021 champ with the Milwaukee Bucks, had this to say about those comparisons:
“Caitlin [Clark] would not score a point on Bronny [James], bro. Bro, he would beat her 20-0. Bryce James would beat her 20-0. He can do everything better than her. She a girl, bro! He physically more imposing.”
Bronny James is a 6-foot-1.5 guard (without shoes) with a 40.5-inch vertical leap, per the NBA Draft Combine. He can physically overwhelm the 6-foot Caitlin Clark, who hardly gets off the floor to score. She might have trouble getting off a shot against James. Still, fantasy matchups are always difficult to judge, but Jeff Teague has no doubts about the result.
Teague was so confident about his assertion that he added another example of how male basketball players would dominate their female counterparts. He used A’ja Wilson, the reigning and three-time WNBA MVP, as an example:
“I don’t think no WNBA player could beat any NBA player. Hell no! A’ja Wilson can’t beat nobody in the NBA. No, hell no! The top WNBA player is not beating the 12th man. She’s not beating a n***a in the G League. She’s not beating a n***a in college.”
Jeff Teague once belittled Caitlin Clark’s accomplishments and compared her to Jimmer Fredette
Caitlin Clark took the WNBA by storm in her rookie season. However, Jeff Teague wasn’t impressed by what she had accomplished. In the “Club 520 Podcast,” the former NBA journeyman said this about the Indiana Fever star:
“The excitement [from college] kind of carried over in Year 1 and it already died down a little bit. To keep it going, they had to make it controversial between her and Angel [Reese]. And Angel kept it going ‘cause Angel talk s**t.”
“Caitlin was just a popular. She was once in a lifetime. She had everything bottled up at the right time and it worked. It was like Jimmer Fredette, but then she went to the W and it worked!”
Teague added that the same thing will happen to Paige Bueckers, who will join the 2025 WNBA draft. He claimed that the league would prop her up as the current UConn star is better than Clark.
Jimmer Fredette didn’t have an impact on college basketball and the NBA the way Caitlin Clark did. Also, only time will tell if Bueckers will trump the impact Clark has had in the WNBA.
