Former Chicago Sky point guard Chennedy Carter took her talents to a different league.
The 26-year-old had arguably one of her best WNBA seasons in 2024. Along with former teammates Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, she led the Sky to many exciting game moments. During the off-season, Carter even won MVP while playing in China. Yet teams in The W overlooked her skills, so she’s showing what the league is missing out on as a player on Adelitas de Chihuahua.
Chennedy Carter is no stranger to double-doubles.
Carter joined Adelitas de Chihuahua recently, according to their official Instagram. It’s a team in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP) Femenil in Mexico.
In true Chennedy Carter fashion, the guard has been putting her all into assisting her team to a win. Her official fan page, Chennedy Report, on X (formerly Twitter), posted that the guard got another double-double ( 12 points, 4 rebounds, 10 assists). Adelitas is currently undefeated with a 4-0 record.
Chicago Sky’s new direction could’ve played a part in them not resigning Chennedy Carter
The Sky fired former head coach Teresa Weatherspoon after only one season with the team. To rebuild and become contenders, the Sky traded notable players like Dana Evans to the Las Vegas Aces and Lindsay Allen to the Connecticut Sun. They also hired former Las Vegas Aces assistant coach Tyler Marsh as their head coach.
With a new coach, staff, and a completely different team, it seems the talented guard didn’t fit the Sky’s current direction.
Chennedy Carter was one of the team’s leading scorers in her only season in Chicago, averaging 17.5 points per game. While free agency saw some of the wildest moves, like DiJonai Carrington getting traded to the Dallas Wings (and the Connecticut Sun basically losing their starting players), things were silent for Carter.
There have been many reports of “what could be the reason” for the guard not being resigned or picked up by another WNBA team. Yet, she’s not letting that stop her from playing the game she loves.
Carter may return to the WNBA (hopefully somehow this season) or in 2026. Either way, her skill and talent are needed in the growing league.
