The Dallas Wings announced Monday that Lou Lopez Sénéchal, the team’s fifth-overall selection in the 2023 WNBA Draft, has elected to sit out the upcoming 2025 WNBA season. The team will retain her exclusive WNBA playing rights.
Lopez Sénéchal, a 6-1 guard, appeared in 27 games for the Wings last season and averaged less than 5 minutes per game. She had a career-high 7 points in a June 17, 2024 game against the Minnesota Lynx. The 26-year-old guard, who was drafted out of the University of Connecticut, missed the entire 2023 season recovering from a knee injury.
Prior to being drafted by the Wings, Lopez Sénéchal had an accolade-filled college career. She played four seasons at Fairfield earning three First Team All-MAAC selections and the MAAC Player of the Year award in 2022. Lopez Sénéchal then transferred to nearby UConn where she earned a First Team All-Big East nod in 2023. She averaged 16 points, 4.3 assists and 1.5 rebounds across five collegiate seasons.
Originally born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Lopez Sénéchal was the first Mexican-born player ever selected in the WNBA Draft. She is currently playing for Jairis, a professional club based in Murcia, Spain.
