The Philadelphia Eagles confirmed on Tuesday that Kevin Patullo will no longer serve as the club’s offensive coordinator after the Philadelphia offense routinely failed to impress during Patullo’s one season in the role.
During the latest episode of his “Green Light” podcast, former Eagles defensive end Chris Long suggested that head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts shouldn’t escape criticism following the club’s 23-19 wild-card playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

“What is it that you two do here?” Long sarcastically asked while speaking about Sirianni and Hurts (and while possibly referencing a cult-classic movie), per Cayden Steele of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com.
The Eagles promoted Patullo from his prior role of passing game coordinator to OC after Kellen Moore left the franchise to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints last winter. In the biggest game of Philadelphia’s season, the Eagles scored just six second-half points via a pair of field goals against the San Francisco defense.
“The head coach picked that coordinator,” Long said about Patullo’s promotion. “…It was supposed to be a continuity play. I’m sure at least part of the decision was made with the quarterback in mind.”
In a different piece, Steele shared how NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported during Wednesday’s edition of the “Good Morning Football” program that those running the Eagles may embrace “a little bit of a clean break” from Sirianni regarding the hiring of a new offensive coordinator. Long seems unconvinced that an outsider will prove to be successful as long as Sirianni and Hurts are involved with the offense.

“I don’t know how the head coach or the quarterback this year helps them separate,” Long added about the Eagles. “And that’s a hard truth. Not saying they have to find new ones. They are both gamers and winners. I sat here and defended the guy at every turn, Nick and Jalen. But if what you got is, ‘Hey, they are winners.’ Then what happens when you don’t win? If you say, ‘Hey, well, it’s just about winning,’ what happens when you lose six games in the regular season and then lose your first playoff game? And it’s two out of three years.”
Philadelphia won the Super Bowl last February after the 2023 Eagles endured an epic collapse. More recently, the Eagles went from 8-2 this past November to 11-6 before the loss to San Francisco.
Both Sirianni and Hurts are expected to remain with Philadelphia. However, their situations could change roughly 12 months from now if it turns out that a different offensive coordinator wasn’t able to fix what became a broken Eagles offense.
