Former Iowa star Kate Martin shares unseen snaps on Gabbie Marshall's 24th birthday

Gabbie Marshall recently celebrated her 24th birthday, and her former teammate Kate Martin took to Instagram to wish her well. The two athletes played together for the Iowa Hawkeyes for five years, starting in 2019 and graduating together in 2024.

On her Instagram story, Martin shared some unseen photos of the duo and wrote:

Both Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin hold the record for the most appearances by any player from the Big Ten Conference. Marshall played in 166 games, while Martin appeared in 163 NCAA games.

After graduating in April, Kate Martin went on to play for the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA. On the other hand, Gabbie Marshall decided to pursue her master's degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of North Carolina.

Marshall was there to support Martin on draft day, where the latter was surprised to be selected in the second round. Martin's emotional reaction showcased the bond they share, with Marshall crediting her for helping her become a more confident individual.

“I’ve become a better person, stronger, a better leader,” Marshall said (via Hawk Fanatic). “My freshman year I struggled to use my voice a little bit. I kind of hid in the shadows. "But I think I’ve trusted my own voice, just been a better leader because these people around me have pushed me especially Kate. She’s one of the best leaders I’ve ever been around. These people are amazing, and they’ve helped me grow.”

Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall's summer plans changed after the WNBA During an episode on Iowa Hawkeyes player and former teammate Jada Gyamfi's podcast "Fresh Tawk," Kate Martin revealed her original summer plans. While at Iowa, she had a road trip planned to a cabin in the woods with Gabbie Marshall and Jada Gyamfi to disconnect from social media and enjoy nature.

However, their plans took a turn when they attended Caitlin Clark's draft day, leading to Martin now playing in the WNBA for the defending champions.
