Aliyah Boston and the No. 6 seed Indiana Fever, who are without Caitlin Clark, continue to surprise in the 2025 WNBA Playoffs. After upsetting the No. 3 seed Atlanta Dream 2-1 in the opening round, the Fever continued with an 89-73 win on the road over A’ja Wilson and the No. 2 seed Las Vegas Aces in Game 1 of the semifinals.
Kelsey Mitchell once again led the way for Indiana, tallying a game-high 34 points on 12-of-23 shooting and three assists. Boston and Natasha Howard were able to contain Wilson to 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting just hours after she won her fourth WNBA MVP award.

The Fever now take a 1-0 series lead over the Aces, despite entering Game 1 as 9.5-point underdogs (ESPN BET). And the upset caught the attention of former Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter.

After three seasons with the Dream and Sparks, Carter signed a one-year deal with the Sky in 2024. She emerged as a borderline All-Star alongside rookie Angel Reese, averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Carter also added intensity to the Sky–Fever rivalry, even shouldering Clark to the floor during one matchup.

Despite the rivalry, Carter was pleased to see the underdog Fever beating the Aces, calling the win “inspiring.”
“it’s something about underdogs that will always make me root for them,” Carter wrote on X. “no matter what team or who you are 🔥its inspiring!”
Although Carter impressed in Chicago, the Sky declined to extend her qualifying offer, making her a free agent before the 2025 season. With no WNBA team picking her up, Carter spent a portion of the year playing for Mexico’s Adelitas de Chihuahua, where she continued to shine.

The Fever will remain in Las Vegas for Game 2 against the Aces on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET
