Cutdown day in the NFL is always a challenging time for players and organizations. Many hard-working individuals, both young and experienced, are waived, cut, or released, leading to significant changes in their lives. However, this process is necessary as teams must reduce their rosters from 90 players to the standard 53-man group for the regular season.
The New York Giants are facing tough decisions of their own, and according to Dakota Randall of Pro Football Network, one player likely to be affected is 2021 third-round pick Aaron Robinson.
Aaron Robinson has struggled to secure a significant role since being drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. After missing the entire 2023 season due to injuries, he now finds himself on the roster bubble for the Giants.
Robinson’s lack of playing time can be attributed mostly to injuries. He faced setbacks in his rookie season, starting on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, then dealing with health issues in subsequent years. Despite appearing in 11 games with four starts, he has managed 32 tackles, one QB hit, and four passes defensed.
The Giants are in need of depth at cornerback, hoping for a healthy Robinson to make an impact or compete with other players at his position. As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, cutting him would free up approximately $1.36 million in cap space for the Giants, with a dead cap hit of $275,144 (pre-June 1).
