A former UConn Huskies star made her WNBA debut with her first points in the league on Thursday night.
Nika Mühl, a 23-year-old player, was selected by the Seattle Storm as the No. 14 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft.
Mühl gained recognition at UConn for her exceptional defense and passing skills. She received two Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year titles as a Husky. Mühl also holds the record for most assists in UConn women’s basketball history, with 686 career assists and program records for assists in a single season (284) and single game (15).
Mühl’s first WNBA points with the Storm on Thursday, which resulted from a steal at halfcourt by Mühl, were captured by UConn on SNY.
“Nika Mühl scored her inaugural WNBA points tonight in true Nika style,” the post mentioned. “To make it even better, Geno Auriemma is present at tonight’s game.”
Mühl appears to be the next WNBA standout to emerge from Auriemma’s historically successful UConn program.
Originally from Croatia, Mühl mentioned that Auriemma’s visit to Croatia and his time spent with her during the recruitment phase persuaded her to choose UConn.
