Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has officially signed with the Global Fight League.
Introduced late last year, the Global Fight League is a team-based combat league founded by Darren Owen, which will feature teams from around the world. Among the talented fighters involved are Tyron Woodley, Luke Rockhold, Wanderlei Silva, and Anthony Pettis.
In a recent press release, the GFL revealed the signing of former UFC stars like Paige VanZant, Cynthia Calvillo, Julia Budd, and Tonya Evinger. Additionally, they announced Cain Velasquez as a head coach. Velasquez, a former UFC heavyweight champion who last competed in 2019, announced his retirement from MMA and transition into professional wrestling after a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou.

Cain Velasquez will be involved in drafting and coaching one of the GFL teams. He has enlisted the help of Javier Mendez from American Kickboxing Academy, showcasing his potential as a coach. Mendez praised Velasquez’s coaching abilities and motivation in working with young talent at AKA.
With appearances in UFC and Bellator corners, Velasquez will now focus on his coaching duties as the Global Fight League season kicks off in April.
