Harsh. Arrogant. Controversial. These are the three words that come to mind whenever one speaks of the Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter. Carter got the center stage for leading her team in offense during the 2024 WNBA, but it was her controversy with Caitlin Clark and subsequent clashes with the fans that earned her a bad name. However, the free agent has now undergone a change of heart that would call for more teams to bid for her.
The 26-year-old is currently busy plying her trade at the Chinese women’s basketball league and has already won an award for her impressive turnaround, specifically for her behavior. According to a tweet by the Chinese Women’s Hoop Show on Friday, Carter has won a 10,000 yuan award for her “emotional growth and sportsmanship.”
Though the Sky star averages a whopping 28.8 points with 6.5 assists per game, leading the league in scoring and ranking second in assists, it is her transformed attitude toward the game that has won the accolade. “It’s her improved respect for refs and opponents that’s made her a true MVP and key to Wuhan’s success,” read the caption of the post.

Alongside, a video of Carter is posted wherein she can be seen arguing with the referees and pushing Clark. But, as it advances, one can see the change in her behavior. Now even during foul calls or landing on the floor because of her opponents, the Texas-born is not losing her calm. Certainly, she is setting standards for other players to follow.
Recently the Texas A&M alum had hit 42 points with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals during a game against the Liaoning Flying Eagles on Tuesday that helped her team defeat the opponents by a 74-60 margin. Carter too at the occasion had come forward to tweet “42 points tonight and the win 🏁 God is the greatest !!! 🤭🤌🏽 #WeMove,” and coupled with her recent award, it would certainly increase her trade value.

Chennedy Carter might be offered better deals after the award
While Reese and Kamilla Cardoso did well in their role, Carter was the surprise package. She averaged 17.5 points per game which was the team’s highest this season. Hence, the Sky were keen on continuing with their guard. However, Carter’s contract is set to expire in 2025 and she will be an unrestricted free agent. Under such circumstances, while many fans felt she would be continuing with the Sky, considering TSpoon and her teammates allowed her to be the alpha for the team, she surprised all when she hinted at a change of team in one of her tweets.
“Let’s chat !!! drop the wnba teams you would like to see me sign with next year 🤭 yall be coaches and gms anyways lol lets see what you think !! 🎸🏁,” Carter stated. Notably, she has played for three different teams during her short five-year career, which increases the chance of her going for another trade deal. Looks like the one-year contract worth $76,535 does not suit her much.

Whether the Chicago-based franchise signs her or not remains to be seen, but what is clear is that these recent outings coupled with a change in personality and the award will get every team, even Chicago, to offer her a better deal than her last contract.
