When Jason Brown addresses schoolchildren, they eagerly listen to stories from his seven-year NFL career. Standing at six-three and weighing 330lbs during his prime, Brown excelled at center – the innermost lineman initiating offensive plays by “snapping” the ball to the quarterback.
Brown entered the NFL draft in 2005 after a successful stint at the University of North Carolina. Known for his relentless clearing of pathways for top players, he secured a $20m free-agent contract with the St Louis Rams in 2009, becoming the highest-paid player in his position at just 26. Despite the glamourous lifestyle he pursued, including a lavish home and expensive cars, Brown felt a deep void after the tragic loss of his older brother, Lunsford, who was killed outside Baghdad in 2003 while serving in the US army.
Driven by a spiritual calling, Brown transitioned from the NFL to agriculture inspired by a radio program he heard. Alongside other current or former professional athletes, including Trent Brown, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, and Blake Griffin, Brown found purpose and fulfillment in farming. Through his farm, First Fruits Farms in North Carolina, Brown has donated millions of pounds of food to those in need.
Despite facing financial setbacks and personal challenges, Brown remains committed to his farming mission and emphasizes the importance of health and accessible, quality food. His efforts have inspired his children to turn chores into thriving businesses, showcasing the rewards of hard work and dedication.
