G2 Esports Coach Seemingly Teases New Roster, “We Will Have New Pieces”

Rumors of a new G2 Esports lineup abound as EMEA’s strongest contender looks for international success.

During an exclusive interview with G2’s performance coach, Ismael “Isma” Pedraza might have confirmed a new G2 Esports roster for the 2025 season.

G2 Esports’ 2022 roster has cemented itself as its region’s best bet. But after an underwhelming Worlds run, LEC fans wonder if it’s time for a change.

Will the right player sub grant international dominance? Or will it harm the delicate balance that allowed Caps and Co. to dominate domestically? Here’s what we know about potential changes in G2’s LEC roster.

G2 Esports Evolves Every Year

Despite lackluster results at MSI and Worlds, G2 Esports finds ways to improve (as seen in their massive rise since their failures last Spring), as demonstrated by their core players: Caps, Hans Sama and BrokenBlade.

“I think that we saw an evolution from last year on how we were playing the game, how conscious we were about playing the game or coming back from setbacks… There were many moments this year where we were behind in a game and we came back. But there was evolution and there was improvement — obviously not as much to win Worlds yet, so that’s why we have to lay out some foundations, but this doesn’t mean we have to start from zero. It just means our “floor” is a little bit higher.”

These contenders shined throughout the season. But since their performance abroad ended in similar results to last year’s, there’s no doubt that the brains at G2 Esports are cooking something up for 2025. Something new.

G2 Will Have “New Pieces”

During our interview with G2 Isma — the esports science pioneer behind the LEC team’s recovery strategies — we asked him about any changes in G2’s approach next season.

Pedraza noted the team’s process, and how reflective they are of their execution this season, showing their willingness to rise above. But then G2’s esports coach says something very interesting.

“I think we’ll be able to build on what we’ve been building, and we still have the core players in the team. We’ll be able to share the work, and I think this is very important: to share what we have done and share what we went through and [teach] how we solved the puzzles when they were almost impossible to solve.”

The implications here suggest new additions to the roster. While nothing is confirmed as of yet, Isma’s phrasing suggests teaching the incoming players G2’s secrets to success.

In late October, Sheep Esports reported a potential G2 Esports roster change from sources that pegged Jungler Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan and Support Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis as incoming additions.

When asked if we could expect the same level of domination from G2 next year, Isma had this to say:

“Results-wise, it’s always something you cannot predict 100%. But from my position, I cannot say that we will win like we did this year because it all depends on the process. It all depends on how we can put the pieces together — because we will have new pieces — and make sure they fit in very well.”

This is still a fair bit of speculation (we don’t know if Isma’s talking about additions to the support team behind the scenes), but it seems more plausible when you consider the business. Because as good as it feels to win domestically, the real money’s in the international bouts. And G2’s cast is hungry for more tangible wins on the world stage.

Final Thoughts

G2 Esports is in a league of its own, using smart plays on the Rift that turn their opponent’s greatest strengths against them. Their clockwork performance and indomitable improvements have carried them to the LEC summit where they’ve reigned for two years. But given boring results overseas and Isma’s comments for their 2025 run, a G2 change-up is starting to look less like rumor and more like a matter of time.
