Former world No.1 and two-time Grand Slam singles champion Garbine Muguruza tied the knot with her long-time partner Arthur Borges in a private ceremony in Spain on October 5.
Muguruza and Borges, who works as a businessman and model, met in 2021 during the US Open in New York’s Central Park. Their love story began when Borges recognized the tennis star and wished her luck.
The couple went public with their relationship during the 2021 Akron WTA Finals Guadalajara. Borges was seen hugging and kissing Muguruza during the trophy ceremony. They got engaged in Marbella in May 2023 and decided to get married in the Spanish beach town.
Vogue Spain featured Muguruza’s beautiful bridal fashion choices, showcasing the two Pronovias dresses she wore. She donned a satin gown with a long train and a netted headpiece for the ceremony, followed by a reception dress with crystal fringes and floral embroidery.
In an interview with ¡Hola!, Muguruza described her romance with Borges as a “total movie” and knew he was the one before he proposed. She shared, “It was love at first sight, and we quickly realized we were a perfect match.”
In April 2024, Muguruza announced her retirement from professional tennis to pursue new challenges and spend more time with her family. She later became the tournament director for the WTA Finals Riyadh in June.
