The Aaron Rodgers-Garrett Wilson duo has been quiet so far this season.
In three games, Wilson has 15 receptions on 26 targets for 150 yards and one touchdown after two seasons of 1,000-plus yards without Rodgers.
He leads the team in yards and receptions, but the chemistry between the two has not yet shined.
“Yeah, I feel like it,” Wilson said on Friday of whether he and Rodgers have become more in sync this week leading up to Sunday’s game against the Broncos at MetLife Stadium. “So, we got to do it on Sunday now. That’s when it matters. If you asked me before the game last week, I would have thought we were on the same page. So, we got to do it on Sunday. That’s when it matters.”
Part of Wilson’s less than sparkling start has been due to facing some of the league’s top corners in recent weeks — L’Jarius Sneed of the Titans and the Patriots’ Christian Gonzalez, along with Denver’s Patrick Surtain on Sunday.
Wilson has been often double teamed against the top cornerback along with a safety.
“Yeah, you know whenever they give that look, you know, it can be frustrating,” Wilson said. “But I got to trust that we know how to answer on the other side and that’s what we’ve been finding. Yeah, it’s definitely frustrating. I pride myself on making plays and stuff like that, doing what I do. But if they want to give me that look, we got to handle it the best way we can handle it. That means the other side of the field is lower in numbers and we got to take advantage of that.”
Wilson’s presence on the field has opened up opportunities in the run game for Breece Hall and rookie Braelon Allen, as well as new looks for Allen Lazard, Mike Williams and Tyler Conklin.
Lazard, who has 148 yards and three touchdowns, has looked completely remade as the No. 2 wideout option as weeks go on.
