Gilbert Burns Wouldn’t Have Waited as Long For Conor McGregor as Michael Chandler Has
During an interview with MMAFighting.com, Gilbert Burns expressed his view that waiting around for a particular opponent was not something he would do. He emphasized that time waits for no man, especially at his age.
“I would never wait that long for any opponent,” Burns told MMA Fighting. “I would never wait, especially [at] my age. [Chandler] just turned 38 too. I would never wait two years. That’s crazy. Even though it’s Conor McGregor, I don’t care. I would never wait.”
Burns mentioned that if he were in Chandler’s position, he would have stopped waiting for Conor once it became clear that the fight wouldn’t happen before the end of 2024.
“Since he’s already been waiting that long, like you said, I would wait until December,” Burns said. “If the guy shows up, good, we’re here. If not, I think I would have moved on a long time [ago] already.”
We’ll have to see how long Michael Chandler is willing to continue waiting and whether a fight with “Mystic Mac” will ever materialize. Stay tuned to BJPenn.com for updates on the potential McGregor vs. Chandler matchup in the upcoming weeks and months.
