Gold industry backs female sport with $6 million Netball WA partnership

Netball WA has renewed its longstanding partnership with Australia’s peak gold mining body, the Gold Industry Group.

The new agreement sees an highest ever contribution to female sport, with a new three-year commitment totalling more than $6 million.

The new partnership more than doubles the investment the Gold Industry Group already makes to Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Glass Jar Australia and will see the Gold Industry Group continue as the Principal Partner of Netball WA and secure joint Principal Partner of West Coast Fever.

“Netball continues to be the number one female participation sport in the state. Netball is a unifying force in WA, it strengthens our communities and we strongly believe it deserves our support,” said Gold Industry Group Chair Kelly Carter.

The partnership is backed by Gold Industry Group funding members, Northern Star Resources, AngloGold Ashanti Australia, Gold Fields, Ramelius Resources, Gold Road Resources, Bellevue Gold, and The Perth Mint.

“The gold industry operates in WA’s regional centres, particularly Kalgoorlie, and if there is a sport that brings people together like no other, it’s netball. Strengthening this sport helps strengthen our regional communities, which is important for everyone in WA,” said Ms Carter.

Netball WA Group Chief Executive Officer Simone Hansen said: “Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Glass Jar Australia are thrilled to be able to continue our strong partnership with the Gold Industry Group for a further three years. “Since 2019, the Gold Industry Group and its funding members have helped netball in this State thrive from the grassroots right up to the elite level. We cannot wait to continue building on our partnership so the dreams and objectives of both gold mining and netball are achieved. “The WA Netball Community has built a strong and lasting relationship with the Gold Sector. Together, we’re working to support and uplift communities and build connections that will endure for generations. “Netball is full of passionate and pioneering people and we work really hard to break down barriers and encourage players from all backgrounds and abilities to participate in our great sport.

“Netball is a game that everyone can play and we want to give everyone that opportunity which is made possible through partnerships such as this one with the Gold Industry Group.”

The gold sector is Western Australia’s second most valuable mineral commodity and is a major contributor to government revenues, which help to build vital infrastructure and fund essential community services.

“We are absolutely delighted to play a role in helping to supercharge the great work that Netball WA is doing to promote inclusivity and community through sport in this state,” said Ms Carter.

“The gold industry works hard to create pathways and opportunities for women to thrive in the workplace. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to breaking down barriers, supporting female leadership, and fostering inclusive communities across WA.”
