Debunking Golf Betting Myths and Misconceptions So You Can Bet Better

The truth is that betting on golf isn’t as popular as betting on other sports like football, basketball, cricket, and American football. However, with sports betting (in general) continuing to rise in popularity, more and more fans are starting to try their luck with golf betting.

But since we can still say, golf betting is not a popular choice, it’s easy to find opinions that are myths and misconceptions. These are things that people say about golf betting that make it less appealing to many.

So, if you’re still hesitant about placing bets on the next tournament you’re eyeing, here are some myths you should get out of your head quickly.

Myth #1: Betting on Golf Relies Heavily on Luck

While most forms of gambling rely on luck, we can’t say this about golf betting or sports betting in general. Luck plays a bit of a role in the outcome of this activity, for sure, but successful bettors would say that it’s more than that.

You need to use analytical and research skills to look into player statistics. You should understand how course conditions and other external factors affect match plays.

Besides that, your betting history should also be scrutinized. Well, at least if you’re serious about making profits from betting on golf.

You’ll need to review the best you’ve placed and figure out what strategies worked (if you used any) during certain situations when your bets won. Then of course what strategies to avoid for those times your wagers lost.

Myth #2: Golf Betting is Only for High Rollers

This might be because many still see golf as a sport for the elite, so only the ones in the same economic group are likely to enjoy it. This isn’t true if you’re not playing golf yourself, at least. Many online bookies would take bets ranging from £0.10-£1.

Myth #3: Online Betting is Always Better Than In-Person Betting

While we can all agree that betting online is the most convenient, it’s not for everybody. This is especially true if you consider yourself nontech-savvy. Some punters simply enjoy visiting their local bookshops, so don’t be shy to do the same.

Myth #4: Sports Betting Bonuses Aren’t Worth It

Since we mentioned online betting, know that many of these operators are usually so generous with bonuses. If you’re new to their platforms, you either get a deposit bonus or free bets.

Many are quick to assume they aren’t worth it because of wagering requirements that make it impossible to withdraw your bonus winnings, but not really. Sports bonuses usually have low wagering requirements compared to casino bonuses, so they’re usually great deals.

Myth #5: The Favorites Always Win or Only Bet on the Popular Players

While it’s true that the favorites in golf tournaments often have lower odds and a higher probability of winning, they certainly don’t win every time. Golf is a sport with a high degree of variance, and underdogs can easily surprise you.

Myth #6: Live Betting is the Only Way to Win

Live betting, known as in-play betting, allows bettors to place wagers during a golf tournament. It can be advantageous, but it’s not the only way for you to win. Again, analytical and research skills are important so you can improve your chances of winning on pre-match wagers.

Myth #7: You Need To Be a Golf Expert to Bet Successfully

No, you don’t need to be an expert to bet on golf, but having enough knowledge about it would improve your odds. Many casual golf fans have found success in golf betting, and many of them have focused on key statistics and course conditions.

Myth #8: High Odds Always Mean High Risk

We admit that it’s generally true that higher odds correlate with lower probabilities of winning, but this doesn’t always translate to high risk.

Sometimes, bookmakers misjudge a player’s form or underestimate their potential on a particular course. These situations are great opportunities to find value in the odds and place bets with a favorable risk-reward ratio.

Myth #9:  It’s Good To Bet on All Match Plays In a Single Tournament

You don’t need to place in every single match played in a single golf event. Even the most seasoned golf punters would agree. It’s always wise to only place bets on matches you’re comfortable about, or if you at least know the statistics of the players involved.

Myth #10: It’s Impossible to Make a Living from Golf Betting

Know that people are making a living off sports betting. So, if golf is the sport you’d like to focus on, it’s possible to earn significant amounts from it. Do note that being a pro bettor means more than 60% of your income is from golf betting.

Conclusion

There you have it. The next time you place bets on a match play or even if it’s your first time, keep these points in mind.

Gambling will always have risks, so be sure you’re completely fine with that. Aside from not falling into the trap of believing those myths, responsible gambling, and efficient bankroll management are key. Good luck!
