Angel Reese is gearing up for the inaugural season of Unrivaled, which kicks off on Jan. 17 in Miami, Florida. Reese was recently seen working out with her Rose BC teammate Chelsea Gray, impressing fans with her layup skills.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Reese and Gray were casually working out in the gym. Gray made a great pass to Reese after a pick-and-roll screen.
The Sky forward caught the ball and executed a falling layup, banking the shot as she fell. Reese, along with other Unrivaled players, has been getting ready in Florida for the league’s opening night.
The video of Reese working on her finishing skills received positive feedback from fans who hope to see it translate on the court.
“Looks like the whole team, not just the two. Maybe Gray can help her with proper layup technique,” a fan tweeted.
“That reverse layup was pretty impressive,” another fan remarked.
“Angel finishing high off the glass. Year 2 is going to be exciting. Wow,” gushed another fan.
While Reese had a standout rookie season and established herself as one of the best rebounders in the WNBA, her finishing skills were criticized by some fans who hoped she would improve them during the offseason.
“Stop falling down so much, girl. It may look tough, but you can get hurt like that,” advised a fan.
“That reverse layup was smooth,” another fan commented.
“Angel getting to play with one of the best passers in the game,” added another fan.
Despite the criticisms, some blame should also be placed on the Chicago Sky front office for not providing Reese with a top point guard to set her up for better scoring opportunities.
Who will Angel Reese play with in Unrivaled?
Angel Reese is among the 36 WNBA players set to compete in Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 league founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Reese, drafted by Rose BC and coached by Nola Henry, will team up with players like Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes, Kahleah Copper, Lexie Hull, and Azura Stevens.
It will be interesting to see how Reese performs playing alongside a skilled point guard like Gray. The addition of Hull, who has a close relationship with Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, adds a different dynamic that fans will be eager to see.
