CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Women’s Basketball Head Coach Shauna Green was honored as the Girls Scouts of Central Illinois 2024 Woman of Distinction at the Diamonds, Desserts & Distinction event. The event took place at Champaign’s CityView Banquet & Meeting Center.
The organization described Green as embodying courage, confidence, and character for Girl Scouts to look up to as leaders.
The Diamonds, Desserts & Distinction event is an important fundraiser for the Girl Scouts in the Champaign area. This year’s event is the 32nd annual gathering and the eighth year honoring Women of Distinction.
In the past two years, Green has led the Illini to successful seasons, postseason appearances, upsets against top teams, and the program’s first championship. She continues to serve as a role model for Girl Scouts.
This recognition makes Green the 148th woman to be honored in the program’s history. She is also joined by Fighting Illini Soccer Head Coach Janet Rayfield as another recognized coach from the University of Illinois.
