In the round-up: Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu says they have almost decided who will join Oliver Bearman at the team next year.
In brief
Magnussen one option for Bearman’s team mate
Haas have already confirmed Bearman as one of their drivers for next season, and Nico Hulkenberg is leaving to join Sauber. Komatsu said the team is close to finalising its 2025 line-up and current driver Kevin Magnussen is among the potential options.
“We have a shortlist and talking to several drivers and it’s getting towards the end of the process,” he said. “That of course includes Kevin.”
Herta and McLaughlin take Iowa poles
Colton Herta and Scott McLaughlin claimed pole position for the two IndyCar races at Iowa. Herta scored his pole, his first on an oval, despite suffering a misfire during his lap.
Toyota one-two on Interlagos grid
Kamui Kobayashi led team mate Sebastien Buemi in a one-two for Toyota in qualifying for today’s Six Hours of Interlagos. Behind them, the sole Cadillac split the two Penske Porsches, and the number 50 Ferrari will start sixth.
The two Jota Porsches will share the fourth row of the grid. One BMW reached the Hyperpole session and will start tenth behind the second of the works Ferraris.
Tyre fears cause Indy Nxt to shorten races
Indy Nxt altered the format of its Iowa round due to concerns over tyre performance. The race distance was trimmed to 55 laps and slated to feature a mandatory 10-lap caution period after the first 15 laps, though a crash shortly before that point meant the race was already neutralised at that stage. Louis Foster won by less than half a second from James Roe.

‘Where there’s a positive outlook on how the ERS units will fare in green racing conditions, the team leaders were also hopeful for the races to be completed without red flags.
