Jul.10 (GMM) Lewis Hamilton proved his critics wrong by ending his almost three-year winning drought at Silverstone last weekend, according to a former F1 driver.
Since narrowly losing the title battle to Max Verstappen in 2021, Mercedes has faced challenges in the new ‘ground effect’ era.
Adding to the difficulties, Hamilton’s teammate George Russell has outperformed him since 2022, raising doubts about Ferrari’s decision to sign the 39-year-old for the future.
Frederic Ferret of L’Equipe believes Hamilton should never have been doubted, stating, “Legends must be respected and never buried.”
Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur has full confidence in Hamilton’s ability to win more championships, revealing that the contract is for three years.
Vasseur explained, “He had to choose where he had the best chance to win the championship in 2025, ’26, ’27, and he chose Ferrari.”
Despite his success at Silverstone, Hamilton admitted to doubting his abilities compared to his prime days.
He shared, “There have been moments where I didn’t feel good enough or doubted if I could reach where I am today.”
Ralf Schumacher, a former F1 driver, believes Hamilton deserves to feel like he’s back in top form after Silverstone.
Schumacher stated, “Voices suggesting Hamilton’s time had passed or that Ferrari regretted their decision have been silenced. Hamilton is back, showcasing the beauty of motorsport and Formula 1.”
