Haney’s Unfocused Fight: Garcia’s Memory, Ramirez Risk

Devin Haney doesn’t seem 100% mentally focused on the task at hand with his upcoming fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2nd. On X, Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is still talking about his loss to Ryan Garcia last year, mentioning steroids.

Haney’s victimhood doesn’t work with fans, who see him as someone who can’t accept his loss. They see him as a spoiled millionaire, trying to create a narrative of a victim from his fight with Kingry ten months ago. It would play better if Haney admitted that he wasn’t good enough and couldn’t handle the power of Garcia’s left hooks.

For Devin to be still dredging up the events of that fight suggests he can’t accept his loss to Ryan. The memories of what happened to Dev that night are haunting him.

Mental Focus?

“All of a sudden yall b**** a** n***** know what steroids is now.. STFU,” said Devin Haney on X, signaling to some on social media that he’s still unable to accept his loss to Ryan Garcia.

Dev’s strategy to undermine Ryan Garcia’s victory over him isn’t working. The fans saw Ryan destroy Haney, and bringing up steroids to deflect what happened that night is useless.

Haney should concentrate on his fight against Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) on May 2nd because the rematch with Ryan won’t happen in October if he gets beaten. Ramirez can do Devin exactly what Garcia did, but make it worse. He’ll finish Haney off if he gets him hurt.

Loser’s Bracket

If Devin gets whipped by the former WBC and WBO light welterweight champion, he can forget about the big-money rematch. He will likely end up in the loser’s bracket fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, Arnold Barboza Jr., or Teofimo Lopez.

It will be a nightmare for Haney if he’s dealing with one of those guys in the loser’s bracket because they will be desperate to win and target his chin. If Haney gets matched up against Teofimo, it could be career oblivion for Dev.
