THE TEE BOX — Caitlin Clark showcased her human side while participating in the pro-am at Pelican Golf Club before the LPGA Tour’s The Annika event.
The 22-year-old WNBA athlete from the Indiana Fever displayed her 16 handicap at the tournament hosted by golf legend Annika Sorenstam, who invited her to play.
Clark had the opportunity to play the back nine with Sorenstam, a Swedish icon with 72 wins on the LPGA Tour and 10 major titles, and also played nine holes with Nelly Korda, the top-ranked women’s golfer making her return after a neck injury.
However, there was one shot Clark probably wishes she could redo — the one on the third hole, where her hybrid club aimed at the green ended up in a group of spectators behind the ropes.
After apologizing immediately and grabbing a second ball, Clark continued her round amid laughter from the crowd.
Despite her mishap, Clark had previously expressed concerns about accidentally hitting a fan with a wayward shot during her first LPGA event.
The fortunate fan who received Clark’s errant shot likely saw it as a unique souvenir from one of the greatest women’s basketball players of her time.
