According to head coach John Kavanagh, former two-weight champion Conor McGregor may return to combat sports as early as December. Reports suggest that McGregor is looking sharp in his latest training regimen.
McGregor, a former featherweight and lightweight champion, has been inactive since sustaining a fractured left tibia and fibula in a fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
In June, McGregor pulled out of UFC 303 due to a toe injury on his left foot ahead of a scheduled fight with Michael Chandler at welterweight.
Conor McGregor backed for December return by head coach, John Kavanagh
McGregor is aiming for a return at the start of next year and is linked to potential fights with Chandler, Alexander Volkanovski, or Dan Hooker. His coach, Kavanagh, describes him as “very sharp” in training at the moment.
John Kavanagh said, “He’s (Conor McGregor) stateside on I believe, a Forged Irish Stout tour. He’s visiting a couple of breweries over there but we’re still sending each other training videos and plans. He’s looking very sharp to me. If the date was now or in December, it would be a green light for me, anyway.”
McGregor has not won a fight since 2020, with his last victory being a knockout over Donald Cerrone at welterweight.
