‘He’s Not Gonna Spend the Money’ – Nick Wright Rules Out Jerry Jones Hiring Deion Sanders As New Cowboys HC

Deion Sanders to the Dallas Cowboys is picking pace as the Colorado head coach is now the betting favorite to replace Mike McCarthy in Dallas. The legendary cornerback signed a five-year deal with Colorado after the 2022 season and still has three years left on his deal.

For the Cowboys to hire Sanders, team owner Jerry Jones will have to pay $8 million to Colorado as per the buyout clause. He will also have to pay Sanders a significant salary, and Nick Wright doesn’t think the Cowboys owner will be willing to do that.

Nick Wright Isn’t Sold on Cowboys Getting Deion Sanders

In a recent segment on “First Things First,” Wright discussed how Jones’ past decisions have shown his unwillingness to spend money on the team. As a result, the possibility of Sanders coaching in Dallas is relatively low.

“He’s [Jones] not gonna spend the money,” said Wright. “On the roster and cash spending, last decade, they’re near the bottom of the league. He lets coaches’ contracts expire rather than fire and pay them for not coaching with them… He clearly was not in love with Mike McCarthy and didn’t wanna pay two coaches at once. He’s not paying Deion’s buyout and the money to get him.”

Wright further mentioned that the upcoming week is one of the best sports weekends of the year, with the Divisional Round games of the NFL playoffs and the National Championship Game between Ohio State and Notre Dame.

The FS1 analyst believes Jones is just trying to keep the Cowboys in the news as he has done over the years.

.@getnickwright thinks there’s no way Jerry Jones hires Deion Sanders as the next Cowboys HC:

“Jerry, through agents and marketing firms, has conspired to hijack the news cycle a bit,” added Wright. “If I thought it was legitimate, then I’d be interested. I do not think that Deion Sanders is gonna be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think Jerry has just found a way to be in every show’s A-block during the best football week of the year, and I don’t like it.”

Everyone knows Jones loves to keep his team’s name in the news. Since the Cowboys are not in the playoffs, the news of the franchise’s interest in Sanders will keep the NFC East team being talked about by the media.

The Cowboys owner did the same in the offseason by delaying the contract extensions to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, which ruined the team’s chances of improving the roster.

Dallas is coming off a 7-10 season, and the fans are unhappy with Jones. He can redeem himself by replacing McCarthy with Sanders, but whether the Colorado head coach accepts the offer remains to be seen.

Sanders Becoming Cowboys HC Will Be Good for the NFL

Sanders is one of the most iconic players to ever play in the NFL. The return of “Prime Time” to the league will be significant for the sport, as he will bring a lot of excitement with him.

The Cowboys are already the most famous and valuable team in the league. Their value will skyrocket if they get Sanders, and Jones might be willing to spend money on him as he is guaranteed a positive return regardless of how the team performs.

Sanders is 13-12 in two seasons with Colorado but has done a great job as their head coach. Since his sons Shedeur and Shilo are departing for the draft this year, there were always speculations about a potential NFL move.

The 57-year-old head coach played five seasons for the Cowboys during his Hall of Fame career and knows the amount of attention he will get if he becomes the team’s head coach. However, pressure is not an issue for Sanders — he always thrives in it. He might take time to adjust to coaching grown men, but there is no denying the Hall of Famer will be the most exciting thing that could happen for the Cowboys this offseason.

Since Jones loves attention, he might prove Wright wrong, and go all-in to get Sanders from Colorado and possibly make him one of the highest-earning head coaches in the NFL.
