The GIST: After twelve days, 672 matches, and plenty of strawberries and creams, the Wimbledon Championships — the second-to-last Grand Slam of the season — are wrapping up, with history set to be made on the grass courts.
In the men’s singles semifinals, we have No. 5 Daniil Medvedev taking on reigning Wimbledon champion No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz today at 8:30 a.m. ET in a rematch of last year’s semifinal, which Alcaraz won in three sets.
On the women’s side, there will be a new champion for the eighth consecutive year. Italy’s No. 7 Jasmine Paolini has reached back-to-back Grand Slam finals, including surviving the longest Wimbledon women’s semifinal yesterday with a grueling three-set win over Croatia’s Donna Vekić.
Paolini will face Czech No. 31 Barbora Krejčiková in the final, who came back from a set down to defeat the heavy tournament favorite, Kazakhstan’s No. 4 Elena Rybakina, in an inspiring three-set match.
Tomorrow’s final will determine whether Paolini or Krejčiková will claim their first-ever Wimbledon title. Game on!
