If you had the opportunity to bring a star down to eye level, what would you do? Would you try to recreate its shine or simply admire its beauty, both bright and supernatural? For BYU freshman Kanon Catchings, being close to greatness has been a part of his life since birth.
The Catchings legacy began in 1974 with Harvey Catchings, who made his NBA debut with the Philadelphia 76ers. Over an 11-year career, Harvey’s daughters, Tamika and Tauja, continued the family’s dominance on the basketball court.
Tamika Catchings, a star in her own right, achieved numerous accolades including WNBA MVP, multiple All-Star selections, and Olympic Gold medals. Inspired by his aunt’s success, Kanon aspires to follow in her footsteps.
Now at BYU, Kanon is focused on showcasing his skills and making a name for himself on the court. With the support of his family’s basketball pedigree, he aims to carve out his own path and leave a lasting legacy.
As he embarks on his freshman season, Catchings is ready to embrace the pressure and expectations that come with his surname. With the guidance of his Hall of Fame aunt, he is determined to not only reach for the stars, but to become one.
