Despite Pokémon Go not incorporating many mechanics from the main series games, Niantic occasionally adds a few, like the method to fully evolve Pawmi, even though it can be challenging. Pawmi serves as the base form of this Pokémon and can eventually evolve into Pawmo and Pawmot.
Pawmi was introduced to Pokémon Go as part of the Adventures Abound season, along with other Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet, bringing a significant surge of Pokémon from the Paldea region. However, it is the only Pokémon from the initial wave with unique requirements for full evolution. Before attempting to evolve Pawmi, it is essential to ensure you have one you want to keep on your team and regularly use. The process can be tiresome. Here’s what you need to know about evolving Pawmi into Pawmo and Pawmot in Pokémon Go.
How do I evolve Pawmi and Pawmo into Pawmot in Pokémon Go?
Pawmi has a unique evolution method in Pokémon Go, similar to how you obtain Pawmot by walking in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This involves a considerable amount of walking, but it shouldn’t be too challenging if you plan your route and actively participate in weekly events. Even if you’re not, as long as you have Adventure Sync enabled, which links Pokémon Go to your phone’s walking app, any steps taken while not actively playing the game should count.
The first step is to catch a Pawmi and evolve it into a Pawmo, requiring 25 Pawmi Candy that can be obtained by catching other Pawmi, using Rare Candy, or making Pawmi your buddy and walking with it. Keeping Pawmi as your buddy is advisable as you’ll need to continue this with Pawmo. With Pawmo, the evolution into Pawmot costs 100 Pawmi Candy and necessitates walking at least 25 km with it as your buddy. Unfortunately, any distance walked as Pawmi will not count towards this total.
These steps can be completed at any time, as long as it is done with the same Pawmo. Once the requirements are met, you can evolve it into Pawmot and begin using it in battles or other activities in Pokémon Go. Adding a walking requirement is not uncommon in this mobile game as Niantic aims to promote various forms of physical activity among players.
Upon obtaining a Pawmot, it is advisable to prepare it for battle. While not a powerhouse, we do not recommend using it in the Great, Ultra, or Master League. However, it can be useful in one-star and three-star raids or against Team Rocket Grunts. The recommended moveset for Pawmot includes the fast move Spark and the charged moves Close Combat and Wild Charge. While not the most powerful choices, it is a solid moveset for an Electric and Fighting-type Pokémon.
Currently, there is no way to catch a Shiny Pawmi or its evolutions. This may be introduced in the future, possibly in conjunction with an event featuring this Paldean Pokémon. Typically, a Shiny version is released two to three years after the Pokémon’s initial release, so we might expect this around 2025 or 2026. Hopefully, it won’t be later than that.
