Mixed Martial Arts, also known as MMA, is one of the most unpredictable yet exciting sports known to mankind. With every fight being very different, MMA is one of the most difficult sports to predict the outcome as, unlike other disciplines where data, statistics, and other factors come into place, MMA is so unpredictable that even the most undeniable fighter can get beaten if he has a bad day, which makes this discipline one of the most interesting sports in the world.
However, several factors come into play to correctly predict the outcome of an MMA fight, with elements such as a fighter’s skills or even the fight-day conditions being very important.
But which are these important factors?
Fighter Styles and Skills
MMA, as correctly portrayed by its name, is a discipline where several different martial arts are merged into one discipline, uniting punches with kicks and even submissions. Therefore, understanding which fighter is better at what (and how his style compares to his opponents) is crucial.
For example, if the matchup is between a striker and a grappler, then the result would be up to if the striker manages to get a good amount of kicks or if the grappler is able to retain the striker. There are also other types of fighters such as wrestling-dominated fighters (which tend to dictate the tempo of a fight) and submissions specialists (they are a safe option when the opponent is weak at defending).
Fight Record and Prior Opponents
MMA is very complex, as a 6-4 fighter can be much more impressive than a 10-0 fighter, it all depends on the competition they had before. It’s not the same as getting 10 wins against amateur opponents than doing so against top-tier fighters (or world champions).
To correctly predict who is better than who, you must take into account factors such as the strength of the previous opponent, a fighter’s record (as previously mentioned), their recent form, and, of course, how they win (if a fighter wins by submission or KO, he’s usually better than one who wins by decision).
Physical Attributes and Conditioning
Record isn’t the only thing that matters when it comes to predicting who wins a fight, it’s also important to take into account the physical condition of a fighter, as it will directly affect his opportunities within a given fight.
One of the most important elements in MMA is a fighter’s reach, from how far he can connect punches and protect himself. Other factors such as endurance and a fighter’s ability to cut weight can influence the result of a given fight.
Mental Toughness
Physical attributes play a very important role in MMA, but so do mental toughness and the ability to not only perform under pressure but maintain focus throughout the fight.
In this case, fighters who excel when performing under pressure tend to be the best choice, with their overall mindset and, of course, their experience inside the octagon playing a huge role. Therefore, try to always choose fighters who are hungry once the fight starts and keep themselves on their feet even after getting brutally hit by their opponent.
External Factors
There are also some factors that influence the outcome of a fight which can dictate whether a fighter wins or loses. For example, let’s imagine that fighter A is from Las Vegas. Maybe, when he encounters fighter B on any normal occasion, he may be more likely to lose, but in the case the fight takes place in Las Vegas, his options are much higher, as he’s much more motivated to get a win in front of his own crowd.
Other factors that can decide a fight are things such as the altitude of the city where the fight takes place (with high-altitude locations affecting a fighter’s cardio) and, surprisingly, judges, as some judges have a history of making questionable decisions, and that’s where you can come in.
Be Mindful: Be Victorious
Predicting an MMA fight isn’t easy, as every fight is as unpredictable as the one before, but you can take advantage of knowledge to make the most mindful decision to choose the correct winner.
To do so, many betting sites offer great rates when it comes to MMA betting, with some offering sign-up bonuses through which you can maximize your wins. Now, next time, you know what to do and how to do it, correctly predicting the winner with ease.
