The newest WNBA franchise is coming off its first regular-season win, and now it gets a rematch with one of the league’s original teams.
The expansion Golden State Valkyries face their first road game since joining the WNBA when they travel to take on the Los Angeles Sparks Friday night at Crypto.com Arena exactly one week after the Sparks beat Golden State, 84-67, in their 2025 season opener and the Valkyries’ inaugural game. The Valkyries (1-1) have since rebounded with a thrilling 76-74 win over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday. Guard Veronica Burton had 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while forward Kayla Thornton chipped in 18 points.
The Sparks (1-2) have lost two in a row since their opening triumph over Golden State, getting blown out in the second half at home against the Minnesota Lynx and then watching a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt fall short in a road loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday. New acquisition Kelsey Plum leads Los Angeles averaging 26.7 points and 5.7 assists through three games this season, and she exploded for 37 points in the team’s first matchup with Golden State last week
