Kate Martin is a beloved figure in Iowa Hawkeyes basketball history, known for her enduring relationships with former college teammates.
Recently, Martin took to Instagram to give a shoutout to her fellow Hawkeyes:
“I’d go everywhere with these folks, including into year ’25 #newyearswag,” Martin’s caption read.
The photos included Iowa players such as Caitlin Clark, Jada Gyamfi, Monika Czinano, and Gabbie Marshall, as well as her girlfriend Claire Gransee, her sister Kennedy Martin-Cable, and brother-in-law Shawn Cable.
From 2019 to 2024, Martin won over Iowa fans with her skills and leadership, earning the nickname “The Glue” from her coach, Lisa Bluder.
“[Martin] has broken her nose, I think, every year she’s been in Iowa,” said Bluder after the Hawkeyes’ Final Four win over the UConn Huskies. “She is a warrior, a leader, the heart and soul of our team.”
During her rookie WNBA season, Martin earned the nickname “Kate ‘Money’ Martin” for her clutch three-point shooting. She’ll be playing for the Golden State Valkyries next season.
